Join Thrive Rehab as we present a two part workshop that aims to empower health professionals with the knowledge and confidence needed to broach the topic of sex and intimacy with their clients.

Topics Covered

  • Importance of talking about sexual heath and intimacy· Professional values
  • Sexual response system
  • Impact of illness and injury on sexual health and function
  • OT models of practice
  • How to initiate conversations about sex
  • Finding resources
  • Maintaining trauma-informed practice
  • LGBTIQA+ respectful practice (brief overview – further 2-hour session available)
  • Sexual Safety for staff (brief overview)
  • Common sexual difficulties
  • Ways of enhancing intimacy via an OT Lens.
  • Resources and referral options.

This workshop is suitable for OT, nursing, medical and allied health professionals, and is applicable to many health care settings.

Anita Brown-Major

Anita Brown-Major (she/her) is an occupational therapist who works with individuals to address their sexual health needs. Anita has completed extensive research in the field of disability and sexuality throughout her 25-year career.

Sarah Palexas

Sarah Palexas (they/she) leads our clinical team at Thrive Rehab, an LGBTQIA+ and neuro-divergent affirming, sex positive practice.

Sarah holds strong core values of being client-centered, anti-oppressive, trauma-informed, and co-creating safe therapeutic relationships. Sarah is passionate about advocacy that centers the client's own voice, needs and priorities.

Sarah takes the responsibility seriously to be responsive to and respectful of every individual, and their unique health and life journey.
